The Thermal Baths

Budapest has always been a city of spas. Its 120 thermal springs were popular even in Roman times. Today there are three major spas, two in Pest and one in Buda. We thought it might be fun to try one out, and choose the Gellert in Buda. The Gellert is also a four star hotel. The hotel entrance is in the center of this photo. The spa is located around to the right side of the hotel.

This is the entrance to the spa. Note the ponderous Art Nouveau style of the building.

Check-in is to the left.

There is a simple coffe bar. Several floors above contain special services such as Thai massage. The indoor pools are on the right.

Some beautiful sculptures.

An indoor pool. After looking at this pool for awhile we decided that we didn't want to participate. Too many enormous ugly bodies...

The outdoor pools cover a large area and vary in temperature, salinity and depth.
